Camden Road Surgery nearby is closing and we are unusually busy while registering many additional patients.

We apologise for delays or knock on effect this is may cause.

Little warning was given by the PCT or North Central London of this closure and it is taking time to employ the additional necessary staff.

We will do our best to assist you as efficiently as possible.

Camden Road Surgery

There has been much local press and concern following the sudden closure of Camden Road Surgery, which is planned to stop offering patient services on 18th April.

The practice has been in negotiation with North Central London over the implications of this closure and the effect it will have on our practice. We are the closest practice to the Camden Road Surgery and will be taking on a proportion of the Camden Road patients although we do not have the capacity to take on all patients from this surgery.

North Central London will be writing to Camden Road patients listing the range of surgeries that are open for registration. Meanwhile, in order to cope with the significant increase in patient numbers that we will experience, we are employing the following new staff:

•	Two full time reception staff
•	One full time partner (in addition to Dr Smeaton who has joined us recently)
•	One additional full time doctor.
•	One full time nurse
•	Two full time locum GPs

This will be a very busy time for the practice as we may take on as many as 1,500 to 2,000 new patients. Please bear with us through this transitional period until the new patients have settled into the practice

NHS Reorganisation

The James Wigg Practice believes patients may benefit from some of the proposed NHS reforms. However as ever - 'the devil is in the detail'.
The reforms will be very disruptive and costly to implement. The NHS will no longer be the same as it has been in the past. If planned changes are implemented in full organisations providing services, including hospitals, will effectively become Private. The NHS will become a purchasing organisation; i.e. one that buys services for patients from anyone prepared to offer them and who meets set standards. The monitoring of these standards will be very difficult.
